ERP Survey

September 2009 from CAmagazine and written by Michael Burns – “As we present the 11th instalment of our annual CAmagazine software survey, it’s interesting to look back and see just how far we have evolved. When we ran our first survey, many people were unfamiliar with enterprise resource planning and vendors were just beginning to target their ERP products to middle-market companies. Now midsized companies are well served, as are their smaller and larger counterparts. New vendors continue to appear and new functionality continues to be released. We also expand each year on what we include in the survey. This time, for example, you will find a section on human resources. We have also included professional services automation vendors. Nice article, however as we have previously discussed “Project green” (the plan to merge all the ERP apps) was scrapped over 3 years ago based on the uniqueness of the products and the customers that use them. So when you state that Epicor “beat us to the punch” you are not necessarily correct. In fact the needs of a large organizations like the Canadian Mint (who runs their manufacturing, accounting, and supplier information on Dynamics AX) is much different than the Allan Candy (running GP) or Blue Mountain Resorts (running NAV) as such (and in support of our services partner and Software developer channels we have continued to provide a more flexible platform than companies like Epicor and Syspro who have limited themselves based on a singular product to only addressing a small part of the Canadian market.
